Friday Egg: Pinwheel!

©Katy David 2016 "Pinwheel" Goose egg, aniline dye

Color! Spinning patterns exploding from a central flower! All on a topsy-turvy starflower base. This goose egg was a lot of fun to make, but please don't ask me which colors I used or the order they were put on because I simply can't tell you. Every color! All the colors!

Happy Friday!

Friday Egg: Carousel

©Katy David, "Carousel" 2016, Chicken egg pysanky

I'm baaaaaack! It's been a while! I've been out for summer break, traveling and dealing with a house renovation and the nuisances that come with it. But I'm back at the kistka as of Monday and really excited to be working on some new ideas.

This is a chicken eggshell done in bright and festive colors that reminded me of a circus carousel, just like the one we rode this summer at Valley Fair in Minnesota!

Friday Egg: Latent Beginnings

©Katy David Friday Egg: Latent Beginnings Goose Egg Pysanky in white, green, blue and red

Today's Friday Egg is an extra special offering for you. This piece is called "Latent Beginnings" has been chosen to be in the People's Gallery Exhibition at the Austin City Hall. I deliver it later on this afternoon and the opening reception (to which you are all invited!) is on Friday, February 27th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at City Hall, 301 W. 2nd Street, Austin, TX 78701.

Here's the description of the piece that I wrote to describe the piece when I entered: "Latent Beginnings" represents the clockwork intensity of the seed underground, packed with all the blueprints and tools it need to eventually build a towering tree that reaches the sky."

I hope you are able to come out for the reception in February so you can see this work in person, as well as many other works of art by other talented Austin-area artists.

Happy Friday!
